The goal of physical therapy department is to achieve the greatest independence possible for every patient through restoration of strength, mobility and relief of pain. The physical therapist may employ various modalities to meet the patient's needs.
- Heat and cold treatment to reduce pain, inflammation, muscle spasms and increase circulation
- Ultrasound, whirlpool or electrical stimulation treatments to loosen muscles and relieve pain or muscle spasms.
- Hands-on joint and soft tissue mobilization to release restrictions around joints to improve range of motion and reduce pain
- Neuromuscular reduction to help relearn simple movements
- Training in use of prostheses following amputation
- Gait and balance training
